You know what fuck everything I am starting a gorram Edmure Tully appreciation life.

Do you know what this man did? This man is caught up in some sort of war that just sort of fell on his doorstep and that really sucks for him, because like damn you honestly have nothing to do with this fight sucks for you. But then when his sister’s enemies are destroying the lands of people he’s supposed to protect and killing them left and right, you know what he does? He opens his fucking doors. He’s like, “wow sorry my family’s squabbles are literally killing y’all wanna crash at my house and eat my food?”

And his sister, who dragged him into her fight in the first place, and his uncle, who apparently makes his living wandering around being grouchy and fighting whoever and disparaging everyone in his family, just mock him endlessly for this. For being a decent fucking human being. For taking his status as a high lord as being more than just having bannermen and the ability to completely destroy the realm.

He’s a high lord and to him that means being responsible for everyone who lives in his lands. Most other people are fighting for power, but even the other good guys who say they’re fighting “for the realm” are actually fighting for honor, which is nice and all but not exactly a concrete thing (note: Zuko was fighting for honor all throughout season 1&2 of Avatar but notice how it was only when he was actually fighting for a better future in season 3 that he became truly honorable).

Edmure though, Edmure started fighting literally because his sister asked him to. Edmure started fighting when his enemies started burning his lands and killing his people. Edmure doesn’t start fighting for revenge, or for the metaphoric honor of his family and people, but to protect his family and people. And he doesn’t just fight to free his lands of people who would harm those he want to protect, he takes care of those who need it. He feeds them and houses them. He shows that he actually understands what being a responsible person in power means.

But this is the ASOIAF universe, where all that really matters is power for power’s sake. It doesn’t matter if at the end of the day there aren’t any people to rule over, it just matters that you’re on top. So good and pure Edmure is made out to be incompetent and stupid for doing the right thing.

Fuck. You. Edmure Tully for the win.
